Staff Report

Jordan is having a moment. More than 1.32 million visitors from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations have arrived in Jordan in 2024, accounting for a 15% increase jump from 2023.

This shows Jordan becomes a top choice for Gulf travelers who travelled looking for a mix of history, adventure, and luxury.

The Jordan Tourism Board (JTB) has attributed it to strong regional ties. Gulf travelers have been staying longer to explore more, and embracing Jordan’s unique blend of cultural heritage and natural wonders.

Saudi Travelers Lead the Charge

Saudi Arabia has taken a lead as 1.158 million Saudis visited Jordan in 2024, making a 17% increase from the previous year. There has been a record increase in summer months, especially July and August when 156,400 and 141,007 visitors travelled Jordan, respectively.

Jordan has become a place for Gulf residents looking to beat the heat. Its cooler highland climate, stunning landscapes, and high-end hospitality have made it a refreshing alternative to the usual European getaways.

More Than Just Saudi Arabia

There have not been only Saudis flocking to Jordan. Visitors from other GCC nations have also shown strong numbers.

  • Kuwait: 72,784 visitors, holding its position as the second-largest GCC source market.
  • UAE: 18,378 visitors, an 11% increase from 2023.
  • Qatar: 16,081 visitors.
  • Bahrain & Oman: 34,309 and 22,716 visitors, respectively, with Oman posting a solid 12% year-over-year rise.

What’s Next?

The Jordan Tourism Board is looking for more growth.

  • More airline partnerships and increased flight options.
  • Themed travel experiences like luxury getaways, adventure tours, and historical explorations designed for Gulf travelers.
  • Bigger investments in premium accommodations and unique tourism offerings.
